Map export formats: which program opens what
OSM2CDR exports OpenStreetMap data for any area into 132 file formats — CAD drawings, vector graphics, GIS data, rasters, 3D models, navigator maps and tiles. The table lists, for every format, the programs that open the file we deliver (280 programs in total), whether map layers stay separate, how the coordinate system is stored, the units and whether there is 3D geometry: 37 formats keep a real EPSG coordinate system and 26 carry 3D geometry.

Frequently asked questions
How are layers named?
In the 38 formats marked "yes — by OSM class" every OpenStreetMap feature class — roads, buildings, water, vegetation, points of interest and so on — goes to its own named layer: a CAD layer in DWG/DXF, a group in SVG, a table in GeoPackage, a separate file in a Shapefile ZIP. "single" means one layer whose features carry their class as an attribute; "none" means the file has no layer structure (rasters, PDF pages, metadata files).
Which formats keep the EPSG coordinate system?
37 formats write coordinates in the coordinate system you choose and declare it in the file or a companion .prj: DWG, DXF, KOMPAS, MIF, TAB, SVG, Shapefile, WKT, PNG, JPEG, GeoTIFF, GeoPackage, FlatGeobuf, GeoParquet, CSV, GML, SpatiaLite, FileGDB, Excel, QGIS Project (.qgz), QGIS Project (.qgs), IFC, Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF, GeoArrow, Zarr, Elevation Model, XYZ heights, Satellite PNG, Satellite JPEG, Satellite GeoTIFF, NetCDF, HDF5, ASCII Grid, LAS, LandXML, DGN, GeoCSV. Another 35 formats are WGS84 by their own specification (GeoJSON, KML, GPX, navigator formats and tile formats).

26 formats carry 3D geometry — buildings extruded to their height, terrain or point clouds: KML, KMZ, STL, IFC, CityJSON, FBX, COLLADA, 3D Tiles, glTF, GLB, OBJ, 3MF, PLY, CityGML, VRML, X3D, 3DS, USD, STEP, Alembic, 3D Terrain, Minecraft .schem, Quantized Mesh, LAS, USDZ, SketchUp. Mesh formats use a local origin at the centre of the area so the model keeps full precision.
