How to use USD for Åse
- Blender 3.0 and newer — File → Import → Universal Scene Description; the scene arrives in meters, and the units are worth checking during import.
- Houdini, Maya, Katana — USD is native to them: the file is attached as a stage or a reference, and buildings arrive as separate primitives.
- NVIDIA Omniverse — the scene opens directly and composes with other USD layers; handy when the city goes underneath a project.

FAQ: USD for Åse
Can I open it on iPhone?
Yes, USDZ files open in AR on iPhone/iPad via Safari or Files app.
Why USD over glTF?
USD supports complex scenes, variations, and animation. glTF is lighter for web.
USDA or USDZ — which one should I download?
By default a text .usda is returned: it can be inspected in an editor and is understood by every USD tool. For augmented reality on an iPhone take the separate USDZ format — it is the same USD packed into a single file.
Where does the building height come from?
From the height tag, if it is there. Next — the number of floors in building:levels at 3 meters each, then a typical height for that type of development, and as a last resort 9 meters. Roofs are flat: this is an LOD1 model, not architectural detail.
How large an area can I take?
Up to 1500 km². The service does not accept more and says so right away rather than after half an hour of rendering: extruding development over a large area gives millions of polygons.
