About CDR

Map of France in CDR — an export of real OpenStreetMap data for the selected area.

CDR — a ready CorelDRAW file: download it and open it with a double click, no import step and no intermediate formats. Layers arrive as separate named groups in the map's language, colours are device CMYK with no ICC profile (black and greys on the K plate alone), labels stay editable text, gradients and raster underlays are preserved. Characters the format's encoding cannot hold — Kazakh “қ” and “ә”, Czech “ě” and “ř”, Greek, CJK — are written in Latin script, so the name stays readable. Street and feature names arrive on a layer of their own, “Feature names”, and are read in the Objects docker — clicking a building itself will not show its name. Guide: /formats/cdr/instructions/.

Which layers are in the file

How to use CDR for France

  1. Open the downloaded file — double-click or File → Open; there will be no import dialogs, it is a native CorelDRAW document.
  2. Layers — in the Objects docker: every map layer arrived as a named group; hide what you don't need with one click.
  3. Feature names — a separate invisible layer, “Feature names”: the docker's search finds the street you need; the layer does not affect printing and can be deleted outright.

FAQ: CDR for France

Is this a real .cdr file?

Yes. The export delivers a ready .cdr file that CorelDRAW opens with a double click: named layers, CMYK colours, editable labels, gradients, raster underlays and page-frame clipping.

Are the colours really CMYK? What do I do before printing?

Yes — the file is written in device CMYK, with no ICC profile. Black and greys sit on the K plate alone, so labels and hair lines print in one pass with no registration trouble. The remaining colours are converted directly and total ink stays under 300 %. Your print shop's profile is unknown to us, so reseparate under it in CorelDRAW: Tools → Color Management.

How do I open the map in CorelDRAW?

Just open the downloaded file: double-click it or use File → Open — no import dialogs. Layers arrive as named groups; hide what you don't need with one click in the Objects window. Step-by-step guide: /formats/cdr/instructions/.

Where do I see street and feature names in CorelDRAW?

In the Objects docker, on a layer of its own called “Feature names”. It holds one invisible object per name taken from the map, so the name shows right there in the list and the docker's search finds the street you need. Clicking the building itself will not show a name: the name sits beside the geometry, on its own layer, not on the drawn shape. The layer is invisible and does not affect printing — delete it with one click if you prefer.

Why might I receive a ZIP instead of .cdr?

It is a rare fallback: when the ready .cdr cannot be built, the service ships a ZIP with the map in SVG plus a step-by-step import guide (INSTRUCTIONS.html in the archive and online: /formats/cdr/instructions/). Layers, colours and labels are preserved this way too.
