.itnAbout TomTom ITN
Map of Saint Patrick in TomTom ITN — an export of real OpenStreetMap data for the selected area.
ITN is a simple text route format for TomTom GO, Start and Via navigators of the 2005–2015 era. On osm2cdr our ITN exporter is a thin wrapper around route points: each point becomes one line of the file. Coordinates are written as integers (longitude and latitude multiplied by 100,000), then a description and a type code. Fields are separated by a vertical bar «|». The first point is marked as departure, the last as destination, the rest stay as intermediate waypoints. Descriptions are stripped of newlines and the «|» character. To be honest: this is a route, not a POI overlay or a map; the limit is 10,000 points, and on older devices staying under ~100 is recommended.

How to use TomTom ITN for Saint Patrick
- The navigator directly — connect the TomTom over USB and copy the .itn into the itn folder on the device; the route shows up in the routes section.
- TomTom MyDrive Connect — the same transfer through the vendor's application if the device does not mount as an ordinary drive.
- Notepad or any text editor — lines can be reordered, extra ones deleted, descriptions rewritten; save the file without a BOM.

FAQ: TomTom ITN for Saint Patrick
What character separates the fields?
A vertical bar «|»: longitude|latitude|description|type. Any «|» in object names is automatically replaced with a dash.
How are point types assigned?
The first point is marked as departure, the last as destination, the rest stay as intermediate waypoints. The codes match the device's ITN types.
How many points can I include?
Technically up to 10,000, but older TomTom GO 720 / Start 25 devices reliably accept around 100. Split large tours into several files.
Is this a route or a set of POIs?
It is a route — an ordered sequence of points. For a POI overlay TomTom has a separate binary format, OV2.
How is the order of the round set?
By the order of the lines: the device leads from the first point to the last exactly as they are written. If you need a different round, reorder the lines in a text editor — nothing has to be recalculated.
