About QGIS Project
Map of Zimbabwe in QGIS Project — an export of real OpenStreetMap data for the selected area.
The «QGIS Project» export assembles a ready-to-open project ZIP bundle: the project file map.qgs (XML), data map.gpkg (a GeoPackage with all OSM vector layers) and a styles/ folder with QML styles. Unzip the archive, open map.qgs in QGIS 3.x, and you see a fully styled, editable map — no hunting for missing files or broken paths. This is an umbrella page over two native project variants: the compact .qgz and the text .qgs. The QPKG format is not generated server-side — it can be built manually in QGIS Desktop from the same GeoPackage if desired.

How to use QGIS Project for Zimbabwe
- QGIS 3.x (free, qgis.org) — unpack the whole ZIP into one folder and open map.qgs with a double click; no extra plugins needed.
- If the layers opened unstyled — check that the styles/ folder sits next to the project; a style is attached manually via Layer Properties > Style > Load Style > pick the QML.
- Editing the data — it lives in map.gpkg: switch on editing mode in QGIS and change geometry and attributes right inside the project, the changes are saved into the same file.

FAQ: QGIS Project for Zimbabwe
How do the QGIS project variants on the site differ?
This page is the general entry to the QGIS export. The .qgz variant is a compact native project recommended by QGIS for distribution; the .qgs variant is the same project as readable XML, convenient for version control.
Can I open the result in QGIS right away?
Yes. Unzip the ZIP and open map.qgs (or map.qgz) in QGIS 3.x. The data file map.gpkg and the styles/ folder sit next to it and are picked up via relative paths.
Is the QPKG format supported?
There is no direct QPKG export — it is a QGIS Desktop format, not a server one. But from the exported GeoPackage a QPKG is easy to build manually via File → Package → Project as QPKG in QGIS 3.30+.
Which layers and styles are in the bundle?
OSM vector layers — roads, buildings, water, greenery, land use, boundaries, POI and more — go into the GeoPackage, and the matching QML styles from the project set are added to styles/.
Do I need an internet connection to open the project?
No. All the data sits in map.gpkg inside the archive, the project requires no external connections and no online basemaps — it opens fully offline.
