What Illustrator version is needed?

Files are compatible with Adobe Illustrator CC 2018 and later.

Does the file contain object names?

Yes, as a hidden catalogue — but it works in a PDF viewer, not in the editor: searching for a name takes you to its spot on the map. Inside Illustrator the name arrives split into separate fully transparent letters, so it never shows up as a readable name in the Layers panel. If you need the name as an editable label, take SVG: there the name catalogue comes as its own layer.

Are layers preserved?

No native Illustrator layers: the file is written by the PDF engine and arrives as a single artboard. Objects are easy to isolate with Select Same (fill or stroke) and then move onto your own layers.

Does the file arrive in RGB or CMYK? How do I prepare it for a print shop?

In RGB. Convert to CMYK in Illustrator under your print shop's profile: File → Document Color Mode → CMYK Color, with the profile set in Edit → Color Settings.
