About CityGML
Map of Kenya in CityGML — an export of real OpenStreetMap data for the selected area.
Export 3D buildings to CityGML -- the OGC standard for 3D city models. XML format with LOD 1 (block building models). Used in urban planning, GIS analysis, and city management.
Which layers are in the file
The set of layers depends on the selected area.

How to use CityGML for Kenya
- FZK Viewer (free) — open the file and make sure the model reads and the attributes are in place; a convenient first check before loading it anywhere.
- 3DCityDB — import through the Importer/Exporter into PostgreSQL with PostGIS, after which the city is available through ordinary SQL queries.
- FME — transformation and conversion: CityGML is easily turned into CityJSON, IFC or shapefiles to match the requirements of a particular project.

FAQ: CityGML for Kenya
How is CityGML different from CityJSON?
CityGML is XML (OGC standard), CityJSON is JSON (compact). Both contain the same data.
What level of detail?
LOD 1 -- block building models with heights from OSM tags.
Which version of CityGML is produced?
CityGML 2.0 — the most widespread version, the one 3DCityDB, FME, FZK Viewer and most city platforms work with. If the receiving system expects version 3.0, the file is converted with the free citygml-tools utility.
What attributes do the buildings have?
The measured height, the number of floors and the building function code derived from OSM tags. That is enough for computations on insolation, noise and building volumes.
What goes into the file besides buildings?
Nothing: only buildings are exported. Roads, vegetation, terrain and water bodies are not included in the model — those are taken as separate layers in GIS formats.
