About Maps.me MWM
Map of Faroe Islands in Maps.me MWM — an export of real OpenStreetMap data for the selected area.
MWM is the binary offline-map format used by Maps.me and Organic Maps. Building a real .mwm requires the upstream generator_tool (multi-gigabyte C++ pipeline from organicmaps/organicmaps) which we do not yet bundle with the worker image, so the API returns HTTP 501 instead of a metadata stub.

How to use Maps.me MWM for Faroe Islands
- Organic Maps (Android/iOS) — country and region maps are downloaded inside the app itself; there is no supported way for a user to drop in their own .mwm, it is an internal build format.
- OsmAnd — if you specifically need your own area: take the OsmAnd OBF format from us and copy the file into the app's folder, it works offline with routing and search.
- GPX or KML — Organic Maps and Maps.me import points, tracks and routes natively, through "Open with" or the bookmarks folder.

Why is it not working?
The format requires the Organic Maps generator_tool which we have not bundled with the worker image yet.
What exactly does the service return for an MWM request?
HTTP 501 — "not implemented". That is a deliberate refusal: instead of a file with an .mwm extension that would not open in the app, you get a clear answer right away and can pick a working format.
Will support appear later?
For that, generator_tool from Organic Maps has to be built into the worker image with all of its dependencies. Until such a build exists we promise no dates — as soon as the format works, this page will be updated.
What can replace MWM right now?
OsmAnd OBF is the closest match in capabilities (vector data, offline routing, address search). If you only need imagery of the area — MBTiles, Locus Map or OruxMaps; if you only need points and tracks — GPX or KML.
