What the file carries

The OBJ file for Lith: features come as a single stream, without named layers, OpenStreetMap tags are not kept — geometry and styling remain, object heights are carried.

What this file will not contain

In OBJ for Lith the following will not travel: 42 km of roads, 3 water features, 23 km² of green areas, 64 points of interest — the format prints solid volumes extruded from building outlines, and other layers are not part of the model.

File size

The expected size of the OBJ file for Lith is about 36 KB; the exact size depends on the chosen layers and area.

How to use OBJ for Lith

  1. Blender (free) — File -> Import -> Wavefront (.obj); the model arrives with materials if the .mtl is in the same folder.
  2. 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D — standard OBJ import; the scale is already in meters, so it is enough to set the scene units to meters.
  3. MeshLab (free) — quickly look at the model, measure its overall dimensions, simplify the mesh if there are many buildings.

FAQ: OBJ for Lith

Which layers are included in the 3D model?

Only building geometry. Roads, landuse, water, and boundaries are not included in the 3D scene.

Is terrain relief included?

Yes, where elevation data (DEM) covers the area: buildings sit on the terrain and the top of the base follows the slope. Without DEM the model stands at z = 0. A bare relief surface is the separate Terrain Mesh format.

Can I open OBJ in Blender?

Yes, Blender natively supports OBJ import/export.

Are materials included?

Yes, the .obj file comes with a .mtl file containing building colors and materials.

OBJ or STL for 3D printing?

STL is better for 3D printing (simple mesh). OBJ is better when materials and textures are needed.
