FAQ: TCX for Buskerud
Is this a recorded workout or a planned route?
A planned route (Course). The file holds a track and course points, but no recorded data — heart rate, cadence and power come from sensors during the ride.
How does TCX differ from FIT?
TCX is text XML, readable in any editor but 5-10x larger. FIT is the compact binary format of modern devices. Use TCX for old software and 2007-2012 devices, FIT for newer ones.
Will POIs end up in the file?
Yes. Point features are exported as CoursePoints with a name from the name attribute — Garmin Training Center shows them as icons along the route.
Will Strava accept the file?
Yes, Strava and TrainingPeaks accept TCX on import. Note that a Course file is a route, not an activity with metrics.
How many points fit into the file?
Up to 50,000 track points and 1,000 route points — beyond that the export trims the data. For a large territory it makes more sense to export a specific route or district rather than the whole road network of a city.
