About Garmin JNX
Map of Kuwait in Garmin JNX — an export of real OpenStreetMap data for the selected area.
JNX is a binary raster-tile container Garmin created for its BirdsEye satellite imagery service, supported on Oregon, GPSMAP, Montana and etrex handhelds. On osm2cdr the JNX is generated natively by our own Python writer: we render the chosen area into JPEG tiles via QGIS and pack them into a .jnx with a header, tile index and Garmin-format coordinates (int32). The file is marked device_id = 0 (all devices) and written with no DRM or expiry, unlike subscription BirdsEye files. To be honest: this is a single-zoom raster overlay — no routing or search, just a picture of your OSM map on top of the base map. The limit is 50,000 tiles per file.

How to use Garmin JNX for Kuwait
- A Garmin device — copy the file to the microSD or to internal memory, into the Garmin/BirdsEye/ folder; after a restart, enable the layer in the map settings.
- Check before you set off — open the maps menu on the device and make sure the layer is visible: some models show raster layers only at certain zoom levels.
- Garmin BaseCamp — will show the map on your computer if the device or its memory card is connected.

FAQ: Garmin JNX for Kuwait
Do I need a BirdsEye subscription?
No. We generate the JNX natively from your OSM map; the file is marked device_id = 0 and carries no DRM or expiry — it works without a subscription.
Can I navigate (route) on this map?
No. JNX is a raster overlay (a picture) on top of the device base map. Routing and search come from a vector map, not from JNX.
How many tiles fit in one file?
Up to 50,000 tiles. Beyond that the tile list is truncated; split large regions into several .jnx files.
Where do I copy the file on the device?
To the microSD card under Garmin/BirdsEye/. After a reboot, enable the layer in the map setup menu.
How is JNX different from Custom Maps KMZ?
Both give a raster layer over the base map, but JNX is a binary BirdsEye container with a 50,000 tile limit, while Custom Maps KMZ is a ZIP with KML and no more than a hundred overlays. JNX handles a substantially larger area, while KMZ is supported by a wider range of models.
