How to use COLLADA for Uganda
- SketchUp — File → Import → choose the COLLADA (.dae) type; in the import settings enable merging coplanar faces so the model comes out lighter.
- Blender — File → Import → Collada (.dae); materials carry over as simple colors and can be replaced with your own right away.
- Google Earth Pro — the model is shown through KMZ: put the .dae into an archive together with a KML file that ties the model to coordinates.

FAQ: COLLADA for Uganda
Does it open in SketchUp?
Yes, COLLADA is one of the primary import formats in SketchUp.
Can I use it in Google Earth?
Yes, COLLADA is used inside KMZ files for 3D models in Google Earth.
What goes into the file?
Only buildings and the flat base under them. Roads, water and green areas are not included in the 3D scene — for those take vector GIS formats.
How do I show the model in Google Earth?
Google Earth loads COLLADA not directly but inside a KMZ: the .dae file is packed into an archive together with a KML that states the coordinates and the rotation of the model. After that the archive opens with a double click.
Are colors and textures preserved?
Colors, yes: every building has a material by development type. There are no textures and no UV unwraps in the export, those are assigned in the 3D editor.
