About EMF
Map of Béidé in EMF — an export of real OpenStreetMap data for the selected area.
EMF (Enhanced Metafile) is Windows' 32-bit vector format, successor to WMF and the standard intermediate format for printing and pasting graphics into Microsoft Office. Our exporter works directly, without Inkscape: the map is rendered through QGIS to SVG, then paths are parsed into polylines and written as binary EMF records (EMR). Honestly: the output is stroked outlines (black pen, no fills or labels), convenient for pasting into Word, Visio, and PowerPoint and scaling without pixelation.
Which layers are in the file
The set of layers depends on the selected area.
File size
The expected size of the EMF file for Béidé is about 158 KB; the exact size depends on the chosen layers and area.
Coordinate systems
WGS 84 (EPSG:4326), selectable in the wizard

How to use EMF for Béidé
- Word and PowerPoint — Insert → Pictures → pick the .emf; the image stays vector and can be dragged by a corner without losing crispness.
- Visio — insert the file and ungroup it: the outlines turn into ordinary shapes that can be given a color, a line weight and a fill.
- Inkscape, CorelDRAW or LibreOffice Draw — open it and add color: the outlines arrive clean, the fills are added by hand.

FAQ: EMF for Béidé
Is Inkscape required to get EMF?
No. The exporter writes EMF directly in Python: QGIS renders SVG, paths are parsed into polylines and encoded as binary EMR records.
Does EMF here have color, fills, and labels?
In this implementation — no: the output is black-pen stroked outlines without fills or text labels. For a colored, filled map use SVG or PDF.
How is EMF different from WMF?
EMF is 32-bit, lifting the old WMF ±32767 scale limit and supported by modern Office by default; WMF is the 16-bit legacy format for very old programs.
Can the outlines be colored in?
Yes. Insert the file into Visio, CorelDRAW or Inkscape, ungroup the objects — and set fills and stroke colors as for ordinary shapes. There are no fills in the export itself, deliberately.
Why are there no street names on the map?
Text is not encoded in this implementation — only lines are written. If labels are a must, take SVG or PDF, where the names stay editable text.
