About Garmin GPI
Map of Congo-Brazzaville in Garmin GPI — an export of real OpenStreetMap data for the selected area.
Garmin GPI is the points-of-interest database for Garmin devices: drop it on the unit or into BaseCamp and your points show up on the map. We take the point features of your area from OpenStreetMap with their names and categories (cafes, pharmacies, fuel, parking, attractions) and build a single .gpi. Names are written in the code page that fits your area, so Cyrillic and accented Latin survive the trip to the device.

- Garmin device — put the .gpi into the Garmin/POI folder on the unit or the memory card; after a restart the points show up in the custom POI section.
- Garmin BaseCamp — opens the .gpi directly: the points are visible on the map, and from there you can send them to a connected device.

FAQ: Garmin GPI for Congo-Brazzaville
What goes into the file?
The point features of your area — cafes, shops, pharmacies, fuel, parking, attractions — with their OpenStreetMap name and category. Lines and outlines are not stored: .gpi is a points format.
How do I load it onto the device?
Copy the .gpi into the Garmin/POI folder on the unit or memory card, or open it in Garmin BaseCamp / POI Loader.
What if the area has no points?
We will not hand you an empty file — we say plainly that no points were found, so you can widen the area or pick layers that carry POI.
What goes into the file?
The point features of the chosen area with their OpenStreetMap name and category. Lines and polygons do not: .gpi stores points only.
Will Cyrillic and umlauts reach the device?
Yes. We pick the string code page to fit the content of the area, and write UTF-8 for mixed scripts, so names do not turn into question marks.
