MP (Polish format) is an open plain-text source format for mapmakers, created for the cGPSmapper compiler. It is not a ready-made map: an .mp file does not load into a navigator. You build the map from it — NM2 for older Navitel units via GPSMapEdit, or .img for Garmin via cgpsmapper.

Sobre o formato MP
MP, also known as the Polish format, is a plain-text source format invented for the cGPSmapper map compiler. Inside is ordinary text: [POLYLINE], [POLYGON] and [POI] sections, each object carrying a type, a name and a coordinate list per detail level. The file opens in any editor, reads by eye and is edited by hand — that is what the whole amateur mapmaking scene rests on.
Understand this up front: an .mp is not a map for a navigator. No device and no navigation app reads it directly. It is the INPUT to a build: from an .mp you compile the format your device actually understands. There are two chains. First — GPSMapEdit: open the .mp and run Export to Navitel NM2; NM2 is understood by older Navitel Navigator releases, roughly up to 9.1x. Second — the cgpsmapper compiler: it turns the .mp into an .img for Garmin devices.
What we actually deliver. The export writes the geometry of the selected layers, object labels, Polish format types and detail levels — that is, a basic, NON-routable map. The routing graph sections (RouteParam on lines and Nod nodes) are not in the file: they are built at the next step by cgpsmapper and GPSMapEdit themselves. We say this plainly rather than in fine print — if you need a map that works out of the box, take Garmin IMG or OsmAnd OBF, which we compile in full.
We do not produce Navitel's native formats: NM2 is produced on your side, in GPSMapEdit, while NM3 and NM7 are closed and cannot be built by any third-party tool at all. So .mp is the honest maximum the service can offer for Navitel: detailed, fresh OpenStreetMap data in the shape a map is assembled from by hand.
Que programa abre ficheiros MP
Os seguintes programas e aplicações podem abrir, editar e trabalhar com ficheiros MP (Polish format, cGPSmapper) (.mp) exportados do OSM2CDR:
Quem utiliza mapas MP
Como exportar para MP
Como abrir depois da exportação
- GPSMapEdit (a free map editor) — File → Open, pick the .mp; the map appears on screen and objects can be edited. Then File → Export → Navitel NM2 and copy the result onto the device into the NavitelContent/Maps folder.
- cgpsmapper (the compiler) — the command "cgpsmapper map.mp" in a console builds an .img for Garmin; the result goes onto the device as gmapsupp.img or is installed via MapInstall.
- Any text editor (Notepad++, VS Code) — inspect and adjust the content directly: object types, names, levels. The format is human-readable, and editing it by hand is normal practice.
- MapTk and related utilities — batch processing of .mp files: merging, filtering by type, syntax checks before the build.
- Routing: if you need a graph, enable it at the build step — cgpsmapper and GPSMapEdit can generate RouteParam and Nod nodes. Our file has none, and without that step the map stays "for display": it draws, but it will not route.
