.dgnAbout DGN
Map of Dandala in DGN — an export of real OpenStreetMap data for the selected area.
DGN is the native binary CAD format of Bentley MicroStation, alive since 1984 and dominant in large infrastructure: highways, railway corridors, plant process diagrams. Our exporter writes DGN V7 (ISFF) through the GDAL/OGR DGN driver: OSM objects are distributed across levels 1-63, line, polygon and point geometry is converted into DGN elements, and the UOR scale is derived from the order's own coordinates, so the file carries real metres of the chosen system. DGN V7 cannot declare a coordinate system inside itself — the format has no field for one; if you picked a system explicitly the order arrives as a ZIP archive: map.dgn plus map.prj describing it. Without an explicit choice the output is unchanged — a single .dgn file. The file opens in MicroStation, the free Bentley View, QGIS, and AutoCAD via its built-in DGN translator.

How to use DGN for Dandala
- MicroStation — open the file directly; to make the map a true base plan, attach it through References (an external reference) rather than inserting it into the active model.
- Bentley View (free) — the official viewer: open, look through the levels, measure distances, print.
- AutoCAD — the DGNIMPORT command brings the geometry into the drawing, DGNATTACH attaches the file as an external reference without importing.
How to open the drawing: units are metres (projected coordinates, not degrees). If the screen is empty after opening, the file is not empty: use Zoom Extents (show all; in AutoCAD, the ZOOM → E command or a double click of the mouse wheel).

FAQ: DGN for Dandala
Which DGN version do you write — V7 or V8?
We write V7 (ISFF). Modern MicroStation and the free Bentley View read V7 fine; for V8 open the file in MicroStation and Save As → V8, or use the free ODA File Converter.
Can DGN be opened without MicroStation?
Yes. Bentley View is the free official viewer, QGIS reads V7 via the OGR_DGN driver, and AutoCAD imports it through its built-in DGN translator.
Are labels and OpenRoads/OpenRail objects carried over?
No. The exporter writes base geometry (lines, polygons, points) by level; text labels and Bentley-specific custom objects are not created. This is enough to use OSM as a basemap.
How do I use the map as a base plan rather than as a drawing?
Attach the DGN through References in MicroStation (or DGNATTACH in AutoCAD). Then the map will be visible but will not become part of your model: it cannot be moved by accident, and the visibility of the levels is turned off with a single switch.
How are the map layers laid out across levels?
Every OSM layer — roads, buildings, water, greenery, boundaries — gets its own level in the range from the first to the sixty-third. The levels you do not need are switched off with MicroStation's standard tools.
