How to use Esri JSON for Otuke
- ArcGIS Online — Content → Add Item → From your computer, upload the .json and publish it as a hosted feature layer; after that the layer is available to your organization's web maps.
- ArcGIS Pro — Add Data, or drag the file into the Contents pane; if there are several layers, unpack the ZIP first.
- QGIS (free) — Layer → Add Vector Layer: GDAL reads ESRIJSON, so the file opens without any Esri products.

FAQ: Esri JSON for Otuke
How does Esri JSON differ from GeoJSON?
Esri JSON encodes polygons via rings with clockwise outer rings (GeoJSON uses counter-clockwise), sets the coordinate system through a numeric wkid, and types attributes with a fields schema. GeoJSON is simpler and tied to WGS84; Esri JSON is handier for ingestion into ArcGIS.
Is this a full feature service?
No. We deliver a static JSON for one-time ingestion into ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Pro. Paging, applyEdits and feature-service query parameters are not supported — it is a file, not a service.
Which coordinate system is the result in?
WGS84 (wkid 4326) by default. That wkid is written into spatialReference so ArcGIS places the data correctly on the map.
What happens when exporting several layers?
A single layer yields a .json file. With multiple layers they are packed into a ZIP archive — one JSON per layer.
Do I need an ArcGIS license to open the file?
No. Esri JSON is ordinary text JSON: QGIS and ogr2ogr read it, and you can parse the structure in any programming language. A license is only needed to work inside ArcGIS itself.
