Which layers are in the file

This file for the selected area contains:

What the file carries

The STEP file for Equasha: features come as a single stream, without named layers, OpenStreetMap tags are not kept — geometry and styling remain, object heights are carried.

What this file will not contain

In STEP for Equasha the following will not travel: 14 km of roads — the format prints solid volumes extruded from building outlines, and other layers are not part of the model.

File size

The expected size of the STEP file for Equasha is about 38 KB; the exact size depends on the chosen layers and area.

How to use STEP for Equasha

  1. FreeCAD (free) — File > Open; the model arrives as solids that can be merged, cut and measured.
  2. SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 — STEP import is standard; when inserting into an assembly, check the units and set the scale if needed.
  3. A check before work — open the file in a free viewer and make sure there are as many solids as you expected and that the assembly landed in the right place.

How to open the STEP model: it is a single .step file, no archive to unpack. Units: metres (declared in the file; if your program asks about units, choose metres, not millimetres). Buildings are solid bodies extruded to their height. Opens in FreeCAD, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Rhino, KOMPAS-3D. If the screen looks empty after opening, the file is not empty: use Zoom to fit.

FAQ: STEP for Equasha

Can I open it in SolidWorks?

Yes, STEP is a universal exchange format supported by all CAD software.

How is it different from STL?

STEP contains precise BREP geometry, STL is mesh-only (polygons).

Do the buildings arrive as solids or as a mesh?

As solids: every house is an extruded prism with faces and edges, not a set of triangles. That is why in CAD it can be cut, merged and measured like an ordinary part.

Which version of STEP is used?

AP214 by default — the schema with the widest support in CAD. If needed, the file is built to AP242, the successor of the older schemas.

What gets into the file besides buildings?

Nothing. The export is volumetric, so only the built-up development is taken; roads, water, greenery and boundaries are not included — download those in a vector format.
