TomTom ITN Itinerary (Route Waypoints)

Open Beta
.itn · application/vnd.tomtom.itn

ITN is a simple text route format for TomTom GO, Start and Via navigators of the 2005–2015 era. On osm2cdr our ITN exporter is a thin wrapper around route points: each point becomes one line of the file. Coordinates are written as integers (longitude and latitude multiplied by 100,000), then a description and a type code. Fields are separated by a vertical bar «|». The first point is marked as departure, the last as destination, the rest stay as intermediate waypoints. Descriptions are stripped of newlines and the «|» character. To be honest: this is a route, not a POI overlay or a map; the limit is 10,000 points, and on older devices staying under ~100 is recommended.

Om formatet TomTom ITN

ITN is a text list of route points for TomTom navigators of the GO, Start and Via series. The format is as simple as it gets: one line per point, fields separated by a vertical bar. That is exactly why it is still useful — a route can be assembled, checked and corrected in an ordinary text editor.

The export is taken when the round is set in advance: deliveries by address, a bus tour with stops, a walk-around of sites. The device builds the roads between the points itself, while the file sets where to go and in which order.

In the file each line is longitude and latitude as integers (degrees multiplied by 100,000), a description and a point type code. The first point is marked as the start, the last as the finish, and the rest stay intermediate; line breaks and the separator character itself are stripped from the descriptions. The technical ceiling is 10,000 points, but old devices reliably accept about a hundred.

This is a route and nothing else — not a map and not a set of points of interest. For a POI set TomTom has a separate binary format, OV2.
