Over het Map Tiles-formaat
XYZ tiles (slippy map) are how almost all web maps are built: the image is cut into 256 × 256 pixel squares, and the address of a square is set by three numbers — zoom, column and row. The client loads only what falls into the window, so the map pans smoothly no matter how much data there is.
This export is taken when the map has to live on your own server: an offline application, a kiosk or a display board with no internet, an internal portal that external tile services are not allowed into. Unpack the archive into a web server directory and you have your own source, the one Leaflet, OpenLayers and MapLibre connect to.
The archive holds a z/x/y.png pyramid in the Web Mercator projection (EPSG:3857) and a metadata.json file with the set name, format, bounds and center. By default zooms 10 through 16 are rendered — from the whole city down to individual buildings; the tile format switches to JPEG if transparency is not needed and size matters more.

Wie gebruikt Map Tiles-kaarten
Map Tiles exporteren
Openen na de export
- Any web server — unpack the archive into the site directory, and the path to the tiles comes out like /tiles/{z}/{x}/{y}.png.
- Leaflet — L.tileLayer('tiles/{z}/{x}/{y}.png', {minZoom: 10, maxZoom: 16}).addTo(map); take the bounds from metadata.json.
- OpenLayers and MapLibre — an XYZ source with the same template; in MapLibre that is a raster source with a tiles field and a tile size of 256.
- Offline and mobile applications — the directory goes into the build resources; if one file is more convenient than thousands of pictures, take MBTiles or PMTiles.
- Checking — open any file like 12/2476/1284.png by hand: if the picture is there, the set is laid out correctly.
