Mengenai Format GeoJSON-Seq

GeoJSON-Seq (RFC 8142) is the same GeoJSON laid out line by line: one line is one whole feature. There is no common FeatureCollection wrapper, which means you do not have to read the entire file to get to the first feature.

This is a pipeline format. Such files are read line by line and processed as a stream: filtered with jq, fed to tippecanoe to build vector tiles, poured into Kafka or Spark, cut into pieces by line count. Memory usage does not depend on the size of the export.

The output is a single .geojsonl with the features of all the selected layers written one after another. Each has a _layer property with the name of its source layer, OpenStreetMap attributes are preserved, and coordinates are WGS84 (EPSG:4326) with six decimal places.

The format is good at exactly what ordinary GeoJSON is bad at on large volumes, and vice versa: you cannot put a .geojsonl straight into Leaflet — the lines are first assembled into a FeatureCollection or processed as a stream.
